COMMISSION - 'THE OLD RED COW'

These images were commissioned by the 'The Old Red Cow' pub, recently re-opened and located by Smithfield Market, London. They consist of interior shots of the pub for the soon-to-be-fully-launched website (www.theoldredcow.com), darkened to emphasise its cozy environment. Further shots in and around Smithfield Market itself were also taken to decorate the walls of the pub, because the owners wished to reconnect this historical boozer - the oldest pub in Smithfield - with the local area and the market in particular, where all the meat for the kitchen is sourced from.

GPGR

My Grandparents, Roderick and Peggy, have lived in this house longer than I have been alive. Despite them changing in appearance with age during my 29 years, their home has remained the same. Therefore I tried to portray them as they are now, juxtaposed with the interior and objects in the house that have not changed. The images taken in the bedroom, for example, including the silhouette of the lamp and flowerpot by the window, are particularly poignant for me because this is the room I slept in whenever I visited. Nothing has changed, from the colour of the pink walls and blankets, to what I see as I look from the bed I slept in and up to the window.

Sara

These shots were taken of a friend studying product design at Central St Martins. I am particularly interested in the silhouette above because, thanks to the hair curling forward, it is immediately obvious to me who it is. I consider that recognition to be an important and essential trait of any silhouette in portraiture, when detailed features are not prominent due to the nature of the shot. Furthermore, on a more personal level, I am particularly proud of these images as they were the first ever portraits I took in a studio using studio equipment.
